Adana Town Center

Adana, Turkey

  • Client:  Esas Gayrimenkul

This haven incorporates the natural features of the surrounding architecture, building massing, local materials and colors with the notion of an oasis within an arid environment.  The result is a wonderful landscape of contextual architype. Water becomes a major feature. An interactive lake in the foreground symbolizes the beginning of the entertainment experience and announces the project along the roadside. From there, trickling streams and cascading water features lead one into the sunken plaza - lined with restaurants, shopping, outdoor seating and social gatherings. The blending of this outdoor environment with the indoor shopping arcade, with its skylit, conditioned, and natural climate, creates a variety of choices for all to enjoy.

Taking advantage of the vertical massing and terraces, whether by staircases or mechanical means, the organic and carved sensitivity invites the visitor to seek out the various programmatic offerings and the spatial variety that the project has to offer. The juxtaposition of solid stone with embedded glass crystals lends to a timeless pursuit, an archeological dig reinhabited in the present. This multi-level exploration builds upon this sense of excitement and discovery, creating a place where historical context fuses with modern principles.
